The selection process is based solely on:
Shortlisting of candidates based on their eligibility (Educational Qualification, Percentage of Marks, and Post-Qualification Experience).
Personal Interview (PI).
Therefore, there is no formal syllabus in the conventional sense (for a written test). The "syllabus" for the Personal Interview will focus heavily on your technical knowledge and relevant experience for the specific post you apply for.
Here is a detailed breakdown of what the Personal Interview (PI) is expected to cover:
The interview is designed to assess your practical knowledge and suitability for a role in a leading engineering and consultancy PSU, particularly in high-stakes projects like Fertilizers, Refineries, Oil & Gas, and Power.
This is the most critical area. The questions will be specific to your engineering discipline and the functional area (Design, Construction, Inspection, etc.) you have applied for.
| Discipline (Examples) | Key Technical Areas to Prepare |
| Mechanical (Design - Piping/Vessel/Machinery) | Piping Codes (ASME B31.3, etc.), Pressure Vessel Design (ASME Sec VIII), Heat Exchangers, Pumps, Compressors, Material selection, Static & Rotary Equipment. |
| Civil (Design/Construction) | Structural Analysis, Foundation Engineering, Concrete Technology (IS/IRC codes), Project Planning (Construction posts), Quality Control (QC). |
| Electrical (Design/Construction) | Power Systems, Switchgear & Protection, Electrical Equipment Sizing, Substation Design, Electrical Safety Codes, Earthing Systems. |
| Instrumentation (Design/Construction) | Control Loops, Process Control Systems (DCS/PLC), Field Instruments (Transmitters, Valves), P&I Diagrams, Calibration. |
| Process | Mass & Heat Transfer, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Thermodynamics, Process Simulation Software, PFDs/P&IDs, Safety in Process Plants (HAZOP). |
| Fire/Industrial Safety | Safety Audits, HAZOP/HAZID studies, Industrial Safety Acts & Rules, Fire Fighting Systems, Emergency Response Planning. |
| Materials Management | Procurement procedures, Inventory Management, Supply Chain Management, Tender/Contract laws, Vendor Development. |
Since all grades require significant post-qualification experience (2 to 8 years), the interview will focus on your work history.

Your specific role and responsibilities.
The project scope, scale, and duration.
The engineering codes, standards, and software you used (e.g., PDMS, AutoCAD, STAAD, Aspen).
Problem-Solving: Describe a major technical challenge you faced in your previous job and how you successfully resolved it.
Safety & Quality: Explain your approach to maintaining quality and adhering to safety standards in your work area.
Teamwork & Leadership: If applying for Grade I (8 years exp.), questions will focus on team management, mentoring, and project coordination.
PDIL's Role: Knowledge of PDIL's core business areas (Fertilizers, Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Power, etc.) and its Mini Ratna status.
Current Projects: Any public information regarding PDIL's ongoing or recent high-profile projects.
PSU Working Environment: Your understanding of working in a Government of India Undertaking.
Fitment: Why do you want to join PDIL? Why this specific role?
Career Goals: Where do you see yourself in the next 3-5 years?
Contractual Nature: You should be clear on the contractual nature of the job (up to 3 years) and be ready to confirm your acceptance of the terms.
Review your Degree/Diploma Fundamentals: Brush up on the core subjects relevant to your post.
Master your Resume: Ensure you can speak confidently and in detail about every project, software, and responsibility listed on your CV.
