Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have passed the requisite Engineering Degree course or be in the final year of the Engineering Degree course.

  • Final year students must submit proof of passing by July 1, 2026, and produce the engineering degree certificate within 12 weeks from the date of commencement of training.

  • The application is open to candidates with a B.E./B.Tech in the notified engineering streams (Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, and Misc. Engg Streams).

Age Limit

  • Candidates must be between 20 and 27 years of age as of July 1, 2026.

  • This means the candidate must have been born between July 2, 1999, and July 1, 2006 (both dates inclusive).

Salary and Perks (Pay Level 10)

Upon commissioning as a Lieutenant, the pay structure includes:

  • Pay Level: Level 10 (₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500)

  • Starting Basic Pay: ₹56,100

  • Military Service Pay (MSP): A fixed amount of ₹15,500 per month.

  • Other Allowances: Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TPTA), and other allowances (Field Area, High Altitude, Siachen, Uniform, etc.) depending on the posting.

  • Additional Benefits: Free medical facilities, CSD facilities, travel concessions, and a robust pension plan (NPS).


Selection Process

The selection involves a multi-stage procedure:

  1. Stage 1: Shortlisting of Applications

    • Candidates are shortlisted based on the aggregate marks obtained up to the 6th semester/3rd year of their engineering degree, against a cut-off percentage set for each stream.

  2. Stage 2: Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview

    • Venue: Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru, or Jalandhar.

    • Duration: Five days.

    • Stage I: Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception and Description Test (PP&DT).

    • Stage II (for cleared candidates): Psychology Tests, Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks, and a Personal Interview (four days).

  3. Stage 3: Medical Examination

    • Recommended candidates undergo a detailed medical examination at a military hospital.

  4. Stage 4: Merit List

    • A final merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the SSB interview.

    • Medically fit candidates on the merit list receive joining letters for training at IMA.
